Inmarsat Books $578M Follow-on Contract for Military Sealift Command’s Fleet Satcom Modernization

Inmarsat‘s U.S. business arm was awarded a potential 10-year, $578.4 million follow-on contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency for services in support of modernizing the Military Sealift Command fleet’s satellite systems and other communications infrastructure.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract requires Inmarsat Government to provide commercial satellite communications to MSC as part of its Next Generation Wideband program, according to an award notice posted Tuesday on Sam.gov.

The performance period will start July 20, 2022, and run through July 19, 2032, if all options are exercised. The IDIQ has a three-year base period, one-year option period and three, two-year extensions.

The solicitation for the MSC NGW follow-on contract was released in August 2021. According to the Sam.gov notice, work includes maintenance and operation of COMSATCOM to ensure that current and future MSC ships and land-based platforms have access to internet connectivity and Voice over IP services.

Inmarsat’s Stratos Government Services Inc. and Segovia subsidiaries were the previous awardees of the MSC NGW COMSATCOM contract. The IDIQ awarded in 2011 had a $315 million ceiling price and a potential eight-year performance period.
