Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has created a business unit focused on unmanned aerial systems in a move to expand the company’s urban air mobility technology portfolio.
The UAS unit will develop software and integrate systems for use in unmanned air traffic control, avionics, thermal management and predictive maintenance, Honeywell said Monday.
Mike Madsen, president and CEO of Honeywell's aerospace segment, said the new business will also work to build technologies with “potential applications in all-electric urban air taxi vehicles, hybrid-electric unmanned cargo drones, optionally piloted airplanes, delivery drones and everything in between."
Concepts that the newly formed unit is looking to tackle are aircraft detect-and-avoid algorithms, artificial intelligence-based landing management systems and fly-by-wire autopilot technologies.
