General Dynamics‘ (NYSE: GD) NASSCO subsidiary has received a potential $106.2 million contract from the U.S. Navy to procure long-lead materials and provide engineering services for a follow-on Expeditionary Mobile Base vessel.
Contract funds will allow NASSCO to obtain components for ESB 5 propulsion system, main diesel generator engines, bridge electronics, centrifugal pumps, fuel and lube oil purifiers, propeller shafts and steering gear, the Defense Departmentsaid Tuesday.
The Naval Sea Systems Command will obligate $70.9 million at the time of award from the service branch’s fiscal 2016 shipbuilding and conversion funds.
NASSCO will perform work at various locations inside and outside the continental U.S. and is scheduled to complete work in March 2017.
The Expeditionary Mobile Base, formerly called the Mobile Landing Platform Afloat Forward Staging Base, is designed to facilitate ship-to-shore logistics for various military operations and support deployment of naval supplies and forces.
