Boeing (NYSE: BA) has secured a potential $100 million contract to engineer a suite of high-speed fiber-optic shipboard networking systems for the U.S. Navy and foreign military sales customers.
Naval Sea Systems Command issued a $16.8 million initial award for design agent and technical engineering support to the AN/USQ-82(V) family of systems, which includes the Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System installed on the Navy’s new Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, the Department of Defense said Friday.
GEDMS is a shipboard networking platform used to transfer data via a mission-critical network backbone installed aboard Navy surface vessels.
The cost-plus-fixed-fee contract involves FMS to Japan, Korea, Australia and Canada.
DOD noted that work performance would extend until May 2028 if the service exercises all options.
