Avon Rubber Books $333M Body Armor Supply Contract With DLA

The Defense Logistics Agency has selected U.K.-based protective equipment supplier Avon Rubber for a potential $333M framework contract to provide body armor plates from its recently acquired business, Ceradyne.

Avon Rubber said Thursday the contact for Enhanced Small Arms Protective Inserts has an 18-month base period, plus two one-year options.

The company expects to receive the first delivery order soon and commence deliveries early next year.

Paul McDonald, CEO of Avon Rubber, said the recent award builds on the firm’s two prior contracts with the U.S. Army to supply vital torso protection equipment.

ESAPI is a legacy product of Ceradyne, which Avon acquired from 3M (NYSE: MMM) through a $116M cash transaction that closed in January.
