Adm. Michael Gilday
U.S. Navy Adm. Michael Gilday formally succeeded Adm. John Richardson, two-time Wash100 Award recipient, as chief of naval operations during a ceremony that took place Thursday in Washington. Gilday, which received earlier this month, is the service branch’s 32nd CNO and responsible for overseeing its utilization of resources as well as the command and operation of shore activities and naval forces, the U.S. Navy said Thursday.
He will also serve as a Joint Chiefs of Staff member and advise the U.S. president, defense secretary, Homeland Security Council and National Security Council on naval matters.
“Gilday is a true cutting edge warfighter, a surface warrior who, by virtue of his leadership at 10th Fleet, fully appreciates the challenges we face in the cyber warfare arena and the increasing pace of competition in new domains, Richardson said.
