Hitachi Data Systems Corp. has agreed to acquire Pentaho Corp., a big data integration and business analytics company, for an undisclosed amount.
Quentin Gallivan will retain his position as Pentaho CEO and the company will continue to operate as usual upon completion of the transaction that is scheduled in June, Hitachi Data Systems said Tuesday.
Gallivan will then report to Kevin Eggleston, HDS senior vice president of social innovation and global industries.
Eggleston said the combination of Hitachi’s information technologies and Pentaho’s software is intended to help customers manage big data and leverage Internet of Things applications.
The acquisition is also part of Hitachi’s strategy to integrate machine data, IT and analytics to extract value from big data and IoT.
Hitachi Data Systems and Pentaho have an existing partnership as original equipment manufacturers and Hitachi said the acquisition builds upon that relationship.
