Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has won a $104 million U.S. Air Force contract to help run a ground control segment of the branch’s GPS satellite constellation, the company said Tuesday.
The satellites provide users position, navigation and timing signals worldwide, Lockheed said.
“Lockheed Martin is committed to sustaining the ground system for this critical mission, ” said Rob Smith, vice president of space and cyber for the information systems and global solutions-defense product line.
Smith said the company is aiming to provide strategic and tactical users positioning and navigation services worldwide.
Lockheed’s team partners for the program include Arctic Slope Research Corp., ISYS Technologies, Overlook Systems Technologies and Tigua Technology Services.
They will perform hardware engineering, software testing, technical order management and systems administration functions.
Lockheed will help sustain the ground control segment, which the Air Force Space Command’s 2nd Space Operations Squadron uses to control the satellites.
The company will provide the branch systems engineering, hardware and communications engineering and test hardware and software for command and control ground systems.
Lockheed will also help carry out space vehicle and ground equipment simulations.
Work for the command’s Space and Missile Center will occur between January 2013 and June 2019.
