GSA said it will host an industry day Thursday at its headquarters to discuss the project, aimed at giving interested parties an overview of the project.
A new FBI headquarters could potentially be built in Washington, Maryland or Virginia, GSA said.
In a request for information posted on FedBizOpps, GSA identified potential Virginia locations as Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties in Virginia and independent municipalities within those counties.
Montgomery and Prince Georges counties in Maryland are also listed in the RFI along with independent municipalities within those counties.
GSA also said in the RFI it could consider exchanging the 2.4 million-square foot Hoover building for a new FBI headquarters in a transaction.
