Electric Boat Wins $89M Contract to Continue Virginia-class Submarine R&D Work

General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) subsidiary Electric Boat Corp. has won an $88, 828, 706 modification contract for development studies and design efforts related to Virginia-class submarines.

Electric Boat is expected to continue its work on components and systems to accomplish research and development tasks and prototypes and engineering development models.

The effort will be used to fully evaluate new technologies to be inserted into succeeding Virginia-class submarines.

Most of the work will be performed in Groton, Conn., and the rest in Quonset Point, R.I., Newport, R.I., and Newport News, Va. The expected completion date is November 2013.

Contract funds in the amount of $6, 300, 000 will be obligated at contract award and will not expire at the end of current fiscal year.

The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
