Army Taps SGT for $80M Contract to Modernize UAS Component Facility

The U.S. Army Contracting Command, or ACC, has awarded Siemens Government Technologies an $80 million contract to develop an advanced manufacturing environment for electric motor stator assemblies used in unmanned aircraft systems.

What Does the Contract Cover?

According to a press release sent to GovCon Wire, the 12-month contract will support the modernization of Anniston Army Depot, a facility built during World War II, into an advanced manufacturing hub for electric motor components. ACC awarded the firm-fixed-price contract after receiving 11 offers in response to an online solicitation. Work is scheduled for completion by Aug. 9, 2027.

SGT said the effort will involve a digital-first approach that uses process-rich digital twins to design, inform and validate production line configurations before physical manufacturing begins. In July, SGT announced that its Siemens Federal Cloud, which features Teamcenter product lifecycle management software, achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification 2.0 Level 2 certification and Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program High authorization.

SGT President and CEO John Ustica, a four-time Wash100 Award winner, said that giving the Army control over its own production and manufacturing environment through AI-driven digital twins and a digital-first approach will help accelerate the Army’s in-house expertise and innovation in next-generation UAS development and sustainment.

How Will Siemens Modernize the Facility?

SGT will leverage its experience in Army infrastructure modernization, including fire and life safety systems, on-site energy generation, energy storage, and distributed power and interconnection technologies, to support the safety, power and energy resiliency the flexible and modular manufacturing environment requires. 

The company provides building automation, utility monitoring, fire protection and electronic security services at military installations, including facilities at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Patrick Space Force Base.
