Boeing has secured a potential $213 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to support engineering work for the reconfiguration of four P-8A multi-mission maritime aircraft previously procured by a foreign military sales customer.
What Does the Contract Modification Cover?
The Department of War said Tuesday the modification expands an undefinitized cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, adding non-recurring engineering work to reconfigure the P-8A Poseidon aircraft for the customer’s specific operational needs. Boeing will carry out the work in Seattle, Washington and Huntington Beach, California, with completion expected by December 2031. The Navy will obligate $74.9 million in foreign military sales funds at the time of award, with Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Maryland, serving as the contracting activity.

How Does the Award Fit Into Boeing’s P-8A Portfolio?
The latest modification builds on Boeing’s continuing P-8A work for U.S. and international customers. In June 2026, the Navy awarded the company a potential five-year, $880 million contract to support procurement, sustainment and modernization of P-8A aircrew and maintenance training systems.
Earlier, Boeing secured a $166.8 million Navy contract in March 2026 to provide software sustainment and modernization support for the P-8A Poseidon fleet. The award covers engineering analysis and upgrades to software and associated hardware components supporting the aircraft.
In November 2024, the Navy awarded Boeing a $1.68 billion contract modification to produce seven Lot 13 P-8A aircraft and provide non-recurring engineering support for Canada and Germany.
What Is the P-8A Poseidon?
The P-8A Poseidon is designed to conduct anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, search and rescue operations and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Built for broad-area maritime and littoral operations, the aircraft is intended to deliver extended global reach, greater payload capacity and open-systems architecture with a smaller crew than legacy platforms. It features synthetic aperture radar, an electro-optical infrared sensor turret and enhanced acoustic capability, along with an air-to-air refueling capability and planned future upgrades to counter evolving anti-submarine warfare threats.
