X-Bow Systems has agreed to acquire Evolution Space to scale production of advanced solid rocket motors, or SRMs, and expand its hypersonic capabilities.
The company said Tuesday the acquisition, expected to close in March or April, will support Department of War munitions and propulsion needs.
“This strategic move is about answering our nation’s call for increased munitions production with speed and scale,” said Mark Kaufman, chief strategy officer at X-Bow. “By integrating Evolution Space’s space-proven and hypersonic capabilities, X-Bow is uniquely positioned to meet the Department of War’s urgent demand for a broader range of critical applications and contribute to a more resilient national defense infrastructure.”
What Capabilities Does Evolution Space Bring to X-Bow?
The transaction will include Evolution Space’s SRM manufacturing site at the Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, enhancing X-Bow’s energetics production capacity and helping mitigate munitions shortages. The investment in domestic manufacturing is expected to reinforce the U.S. industrial base while reducing reliance on vulnerable supply chains and foreign sources.
Under the agreement, X-Bow will also gain access to Evolution Space’s high burn-rate SRM technology, hypersonic propulsion systems, and other proprietary capabilities involving advanced propellants and igniters.
How Is X-Bow Expanding Its SRM Production Capacity?
The acquisition supports X-Bow’s broader strategy to expand its manufacturing capacity. In May 2025, the company secured $105 million in a Series B funding round, which included a significant investment from Lockheed Martin. As part of that investment, Lockheed Martin also partnered with X-Bow to accelerate the company’s development as an independent supplier of SRMs.
