Collins Aerospace Secures $174M SOCOM Contract for Army Aviation Software Support

Collins Aerospace has secured a $174.1 million contract from the U.S. Special Operations Command to modernize and sustain software systems used on Army Special Operations Aviation aircraft.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract includes cost-plus-fixed-fee, cost-reimbursement and firm-fixed-price contract line items for the Post Deployment Software Support VI, or PDSS VI, program, the Department of War said Friday.

Under the award, issued Thursday, Collins Aerospace will also provide production and contractor logistics support for PDSS VI systems.

Work will primarily take place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and is expected to run through March 2031, with an optional six-month extension that could extend performance to September 2031.

What Is the PDSS VI Program?

The PDSS VI effort focuses on ensuring that operational aviation systems, including flight and navigation sensors and transmitters, on aircraft operated by Army Special Operations Aviation units remain up to date. Those units support sensitive missions for SOCOM.

Collins Aerospace’s SOCOM Avionics Work

Collins Aerospace has supported SOCOM aviation programs for several years through avionics development, integration and sustainment contracts.

In 2020, SOCOM awarded the RTX business a $126 million IDIQ contract to research, develop, produce and sustain the Common Avionics Architecture System, or CAAS, used on Army special operations aircraft.

The CAAS platform is based on the company’s Flight2 open architecture, which supports the integration of mission, navigation and communications subsystems.

In 2023, Collins Aerospace received a $62 million SOCOM contract to provide tactical mission network services, including logistics assistance and life cycle support for avionics and cockpit systems, through the command’s Technology Applications Program Office.
