Bugcrowd Boosts Security Testing Capabilities Through Mayhem Security Acquisition

Bugcrowd has acquired Mayhem Security, a provider of artificial intelligence-enabled offensive security tools and services. Following the transaction’s completion, Bugcrowd said it will integrate Mayhem’s automation capabilities with its global hacker community to create an AI-powered, human-in-the-loop security testing platform.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

How Will the Integration Enhance Cybersecurity Testing?

The combined entity will provide continuous security coverage from software development to production. By merging Mayhem’s AI-driven automation with Bugcrowd’s human-led testing, the new system will proactively identify and validate vulnerabilities before deployment. The integration is designed to help organizations ship secure software faster and more efficiently while reducing their attack surface.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Mayhem Security to the Bugcrowd team,” said Dave Gerry, CEO of Bugcrowd. “This acquisition represents another milestone in our mission to transform the way organizations approach cybersecurity by combining the collective ingenuity of our global hacker community with the machine speed and precision of AI offensive security testing.”

What Makes Mayhem Security’s Technology Unique?

Founded by Carnegie Mellon University researchers David Brumley and Thanassis Avgerinos, Mayhem Security gained recognition after winning the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s Cyber Grand Challenge in 2016 for developing an autonomous system that discovers and repairs software vulnerabilities in real time. The company’s AI-driven platform provides automated penetration testing, code analysis and dynamic Software Bill of Materials management to enable faster and more accurate vulnerability detection.

“For over a decade, we’ve built technology that thinks and learns like an attacker to autonomously find new vulnerabilities,” said Brumley, CEO of Mayhem Security. “Joining forces with Bugcrowd amplifies that mission by combining AI-driven automation with the creativity and expertise of the global hacker community.”
