MetTel has completed a nationwide modernization of network and voice infrastructure for the General Services Administration to boost connectivity, security and operational efficiency across nearly 800 federal locations worldwide.
How Did MetTel Modernize GSA’s Network & Voice Infrastructure?
The digital transformation and communications company said Tuesday it leveraged software-defined wide area network, or SD-WAN, zero trust and low Earth orbit satellite connectivity to enhance network performance, strengthen security and optimize costs, enabling federal employees to operate efficiently nationwide, even in remote areas.
“Through close collaboration, GSA now has a future-ready network infrastructure that is secure, resilient and scalable. This project sets a new benchmark for federal technology modernization,” said Don Parente, vice president of public sector sales at MetTel.
What Upgrades Were Made Under the EIS Contract?
The network transformation initiative, under the Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract, migrated hundreds of digital subscriber line, or DSL, and long-term evolution, or LTE, locations to higher-capacity broadband and Ethernet services, upgraded data circuits to meet “Return to Office” bandwidth demands, and modernized the agency’s voice infrastructure, from legacy time-division multiplexing to a modern platform based on session initiation protocol, or SIP. The project integrated SD-WAN with zero trust security to replace traditional managed trusted internet protocol services, or MTIPS, gateways with a zero trust architecture that enhances cybersecurity and optimizes cloud traffic.
