US Approves Australia’s $404M FMS Request for Baseline 2 Upgrades of L3Harris-Built MC-55A

L3Harris Technologies will serve as the principal contractor in a proposed $404 million foreign military sale that the Department of State approved to support Australia’s MC-55A aircraft fleet.

The Australian government requested to buy MC-55A Baseline 2 upgrades and related equipment and services, including major and minor modifications, spare parts, consumables and accessories, repair and return support, and engineering, technical and logistics support services, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Wednesday.

The MC-55A, an L3Harris-manufactured aircraft based on the Gulfstream G550 business jet, is equipped with intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic warfare mission systems. Australia acquired four modified G550 aircraft to enhance its electronic warfare capabilities and interoperability with the U.S. Air Force, Airforce Technology reported.

Australia’s Role in Regional Stability

The potential sale supports U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by enhancing the self-defense capabilities of Australia. The country’s location contributes to maintaining peace and economic stability in the region. Providing the capability to maintain its fleet of MC-55A aircraft enhances the country’s ability to conduct effective air operations and support U.S. operations, DSCA said.
