The Missile Defense Agency has issued a draft request for proposal for its Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense, or SHIELD, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract in the fourth quarter. The multiple award contract has a potential 10-year period of performance and is valued at a total of $151 billion if all options are exercised, according to a pre-solicitation notice posted on SAM.gov Thursday.
SHIELD Contract Details
The initiative supports MDA’s plan to establish a multi-domain defense system to detect, track, intercept and neutralize ballistic, hypersonic or cruise missiles and other homeland security threats. The system that the agency envisions can also monitor airborne threats across all phases of flight.
Work on the contract will include research and development, weapon design, prototype demonstration, disruptive technologies experimentation, systems engineering, integration and assembly, operation and sustainment, modernization, data collection and analysis, cybersecurity, and modeling, simulation and analysis.
Questions and comments about the draft RFP may be submitted on or before July 31.
