Lev Katz, vice president of the infrastructure solutions group at Dell Technologies, said artificial intelligence is transforming government operations by enabling agencies to glean insights from large amounts of data, improving their decision-making ability.
“AI-assisted knowledge can lead to faster and better decision-making, which has profound implications for areas as varied as citizen services, military applications and cybersecurity,” Katz wrote in a piece published on Carahsoft.com.
Analyzing Data With AI
In this article, the Dell Technologies executive discussed how AI could help government agencies analyze large data volumes and make informed decisions.
“Much of AI’s strength is rooted in its ability to combine a wide range of information sources—including text, images, video and audio—into a robust framework for human-machine interactions,” Katz noted.
He explained how AI could be applied in border control efforts and how generative AI could support government employees.
Implementing Zero Trust to Ensure Data Security
The infrastructure solutions group VP highlighted the need for agencies to implement zero trust and layer security into their IT environments to protect the data used to train AI models.
“A zero trust framework gives agencies the ability to restrict users’ access to only the data and workflows they need to do their jobs,” Katz wrote. “In addition, when AI is being used to analyze data, that data should be encrypted at rest and in transit.”
He also cited the increase in agencies’ use of public clouds, on-premises cloud hosting and data centers to ensure data security.
