Northrop said Thursday Fleming has been with the company for almost 18 years and is currently VP and general manager of the sector’s strategic space systems division.
Commenting on the board of directors’ election of Fleming, Kathy Warden, chair, president and CEO of Northrop, said, “Rob brings proven leadership experience running complex businesses in the aerospace and defense industry.”
The 2023 Wash100 awardee also expressed confidence in Fleming’s ability to continue growing Northrop’s space portfolio as well as its innovation and customer delivery efforts.
Fleming led different businesses and functions in various sectors of Northrop during his nearly two-decade stint with the company. He started his professional career as an aerospace systems engineer.
Besides the bachelor’s and a doctorate degree in electrical engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, Fleming is a Harvard Business School General Management Program graduate. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and was a U.S. Navy Reserve before.
Fleming will succeed Wilson, who is taking a new role within Northrop.
