Richmond spent a decade at Lockheed, where he served as government affairs lead in support of the Missile Defense Agency. In this capacity, he was responsible for various programs including the Next Generation Interceptor, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense and the Aegis ballistic missile defense system.
He served in the U.S. Army as commander of 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command. His military career also included time as commander of the 5-7 Air Defense Artillery and director of the theater air and missile defense exercise division, J3, within U.S. Pacific Command.
