SNC Buys Volansi’s Line of Vertical Takeoff & Landing Drones

Sierra Nevada Corp. has purchased a portfolio of infrastructure-independent, vertical takeoff and landing aerial drones from Volansi in a strategy to build up SNC’s position in the market for unmanned aerial vehicles.

The deal covers Volansi’s Voly-50 and Voly-T offerings, a factory in Bend, Oregon, and key personnel, SNC said Monday.

SNC aims to develop a rapidly deployable, unmanned VTOL platform with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance features by combining the Voly technology with the aerospace company’s sensor integrations and open architecture systems.

Kutta Technologies, an SNC subsidiary specializing in safety-critical unmanned systems software, will be responsible for ensuring that the VTOL offering will adhere to interoperability standards and compliant with DO-178, a certification for software used in airborne systems and equipment.
