The State Department has cleared Taiwan’s requests to procure AGM-84L-1 Harpoon Block II missiles, contract logistics support for the Surveillance Radar Program and AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder missiles under three foreign military sales agreements worth approximately $1.1 billion combined.
Taiwan’s economic and cultural representative office requested to buy 60 units of AGM-84L-1 Harpoon Block II missiles, Harpoon guidance control units, radar seekers, containers, personnel training and technical assistance under a potential $355 million FMS contract, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
Boeing (NYSE: BA) will serve as the principal contractor in the transaction, which seeks to help Taiwan improve surface and air defenses, counter maritime aggressions, amphibious assaults and coastal blockades and modernize its military capability.
Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX) will be the prime contractor in another FMS deal valued at $665.4 million, which includes the procurement of follow-on SRP contractor logistics support, minor upgrades and modifications, program management and related services in support of Taipei’s efforts to improve its threat warning capabilities and situational awareness.
The State Department also approved Taiwan’s request to purchase 100 AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder tactical missiles and four AIM-9X Block II tactical guidance units, spare and repair parts, containers, technical assistance and related services under an $85.6 million transaction.
Raytheon’s missiles and defense will serve as the prime contractor in the proposed sale, which will enable Taiwan to maintain its defensive capability.
