NASA has awarded approximately $95 million in contracts to 110 small businessesto continue to develop technologies as part of the second phase of a program meant to support space exploration, aerospace ecosystem and other missions.
Each Phase II awardees under the Small Business Innovation Research program will get up to $750,000 to build and demonstrate their technology platforms over a two-year period, the agency said Thursday.
Teltrium Solutions, Folditure and Recon RF were among the Phase II SBIR awardees.
Teltrium intends to build a lens designed to improve the performance of parabolic antennas, while Recon RF will develop a prototype of S-Band solid-state power amplifier module that could help NASA meet some of its remote sensing requirements. Folditure will develop the structure and kinematics of a solar array that could support human and robotic exploration of the lunar surface.
“It is both a program mission and passion to increase the diversity of collaborators we’re bringing into the agency’s work,” said Gynelle Steele, deputy program executive for NASA’s SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer programs. “We are especially excited about the chance to work alongside our first-time companies as they bring their ideas from paper to prototype in Phase II.”
NASA selected the Phase II vendors after initial phase awardees demonstrated the feasibility of their proposed tech platforms.
