State Department Clears Proposed $176M Deal for Bahrain Launcher Weapon Modernization Services

The State Department has approved a potential $175.98 million foreign military sale, through which Bahrain seeks assistance to update M270 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems manufactured by Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT).

Bahrain wants to convert nine MLRS units into the M270 A1 configuration, spare parts and logistical and program support services through the proposed FMS transaction, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday.

The updated system will feature the Common Fire Control System, the Vehicular Intercom System, a 600-horsepower engine, a launcher mechanical system and an electronics distribution box.

Contractor services will include logistics, technical documentation, software delivery and system integration work.

DSCA noted that the proposed sale does not include a requirement for Lockheed and the U.S. government to deploy additional representatives to the foreign country.
