Jason Weiss, a senior information technology modernization professional, has been appointed chief software officer at the Department of Defense, FedScoop reported Friday.
He will lead efforts to modernize legacy applications and implement modern software development practices across DOD.
Weiss joined the Pentagon in January as director of software modernization after a 20-year career in the private sector overseeing IT and cloud development initiatives.
He most recently worked at BAE Systems as VP of IT transformation. His industry career included leadership roles at several technology companies, including Smartrac, Rapid7 (Nasdaq: RPD), Special Technologies Laboratory and Sybase.
Weiss started his career in the U.S. Navy as a cryptologic technician.
