OneWeb Closes TrustComm Buy, Forms Government Subsidiary; Neil Masterson Quoted

OneWeb has finalized its purchase of TrustComm in a transaction that will make the latter a wholly owned subsidiary focused on delivering managed satellite communications services to government customers.

The subsidiary will operate as OneWeb Technologies led by former TrustComm CEO Bob Roe and will provide satellite connectivity to the Five Eyes alliance, NATO, United Nations and other strategic partners in accordance with the terms of a proxy agreement with the U.S. government, OneWeb said Tuesday.

OneWeb first announced the transaction in May.

“We look forward to taking our relationship with government customers as a trusted partner and operator of secure, resilient satellite communications to a new level,” said Roe.

OneWeb CEO Neil Masterson said the acquisition provides the company an opportunity to provide secure, low-latency satcom service to help meet the needs of government users.

“We look forward to making OneWeb’s network available as a vital tool to help advance government priorities,” Masterson added.

OneWeb demonstrated its satellite-based communications platform to the Department of Defense and is on track to deliver services across the Arctic by late 2021. The company also plans to provide global satcom coverage by the end of 2022.
