The State Department has approved Israel’s request to procure 18 CH-53K heavy-lift helicopters , manufactured by Lockheed Martin ‘s (NYSE: LMT) Sikorsky subsidiary, through a potential $3.4 billion foreign military sales transaction with the U.S. government.
The possible FMS deal will include T408-GE-400 engines from General Electric (NYSE: GD), embedded positioning and inertial navigation systems, communications equipment, training and logistics support services, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
DSCA noted that Israel is buying CH-53K helicopters for use in the country’s military transportation, homeland defense and regional deterrence efforts.
The proposed transaction will require the deployment of up to four contractor representatives to the Middle Eastern country to perform support work over three-year period.
