Will Roper, former assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force for acquisition, technology and logistics and a three-time Wash100 Award winner, has joined the board of advisers of air combat training technology developer Red 6 to share his expertise in support of the company’s Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System.
“His in-depth knowledge of Air Force AT&L programs will be beneficial as we integrate ATARS into military platforms across services in the U.S. and abroad,” Daniel Robinson, founder and CEO of Red 6, said in a statement published Thursday.
Roper oversaw the sustainment and modernization of more than 5,300 military aircraft and satellites, launched programs across the areas of autonomous drones, hypersonic weapons and internet of things and led tech transformations in the field of artificial intelligence, software and digital engineering during his time as the Air Force’s acquisition chief.
He also helped companies connect to the Air Force and explore defense market opportunities through AFWERX and Small Business Innovation Research programs.
“Augmented Reality provides a paradigm-shifting opportunity for militaries to train at much lower costs and against threat environments that cannot be created in the physical world. The technology has major commercial applications as well, and I am excited to help Red 6 explore these,” said Roper.
