Comtech Telecommunications (Nasdaq: CMTL) has promoted 15-year company veteran Rich Luhrs as president of its Comtech Systems subsidiary within the government solutions segment.

He succeeds the Richard Burt, who will retire from Comtech after a four-decade career, the communications systems and services provider said Thursday.

Burt, who has led the subsidiary since 1989, will support the transition phase in a senior advisory role.

Luhrs’ career in the telecommunications industry has included systems engineering and senior management positions at GEOgraphic Network Affiliates-International, Teleglobe Communications Corp., MCI International, WorldCom and COMSAT.

He spent nine years at the U.S. Air Force, where he worked as a nuclear weapon systems specialist and a space systems engineer.

Comtech Systems is headquartered in Orlando and manufactures transmission platforms such as microwave and troposcatter products.
