European conglomerates Leonardo and Thales are considering a joint bid to buy MDA, a Maxar Technologies (NYSE: MAXR) subsidiary that develops technology for space and terrestrial applications, Reuters reported Tuesday.
MDA has continued to operate as an independent business unit after Maxar unified the operations of its three other businesses — DigitalGlobe, Radiant Solutions and SSL — earlier this year through a reorganization initiative.
Leonardo CEO Alessandro Profumo cited satellite antenna as a technology area of interest in MDA during a phone interview, the report noted.
Reuters estimated the value of the business could exceed $1B in a sale transaction.
