BWX Technologies‘ (NYSE: BWXT) Nuclear Fuel Services subsidiary has received a $505M contract to convert 20.2 metric tons of highly enriched uranium into a low enriched form that can be used in national defense efforts or as fuel for commercial nuclear reactors.
The HEU downblending project is scheduled to commence in early 2019 and continue through mid-2025, BWXT said Friday.
Nuclear Fuel Services will perform work to support the National Nuclear Security Administrations defense program objectives.
BWXT previously helped the U.S. government downblend HEU as part of Project Sapphire.
