Boeing (NYSE: BA) will help maintain F/A-18Hornets of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aircraft fleet under a potential 10-year, $427 million contract from the Defense Logistics Agency.
The sole-source contract covers the delivery and management of consumable materials for the structural repair, modification and depot level maintenance of Hornets, Boeing said Thursday.
Work will take place at five Navy and Marine Corps depots as well as at the Boeing Cecil Field facility
Boeing will also provide technical support from the company’s field service representatives co-located at the sites.
The contract is the first that supports the military branches’ depot operations under the DLA/Boeing Captains of Industry program and brings the project’s value to $3.2 billion.
DLA’s program with Boeing is intended to enhance material availability and provide onsite technical and engineering support to expedite the cycle time of aircraft maintenance.
Two other programs that support the repair of aging F/A-18 A-D Hornets are the Planned Maintenance Interval-1 that provides aircraft inspection, repair and rework and the High Flight Hour that aims to extend the platform’s lifetime to 10,000 operational hours from the previous 6,000.
The contract has a five-year base performance period and a five-year option.
