Boeing (NYSE: BA) has agreed to buy Aurora Flight Sciences for an undisclosed sum as part of efforts to accelerate the development of autonomous technology for aerospace vehicles.
Chicago-based Boeing said Thursday it would integrate Aurora into the aerospace and defense contractor’s engineering, test and technology segment upon closing of the acquisition.
Greg Hyslop, chief technology officer and senior vice president of Boeing Engineering, Test & Technology, said the future combined company will work to build autonomous platforms for the military and commercial markets.
Both companies have collaborated on rapid prototyping of aircraft and structural assemblies in the past decade.
