Trump to Nominate Christopher A. Wray to Lead FBI

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday in a tweet that he will nominate former assistant U.S. attorney general Christopher Wray to head up the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI.)

“I will be nominating Christopher A. Wray, a man of impeccable credentials, to be the new Director of the FBI. Details to follow,” Trump wrote in the tweet.

Wray currently works in private practice at law firm King & Spalding’s Washington and Atlanta offices, reports Reuters. He handles white-collar crime and regulatory enforcement, according to the firm’s website.

Wray represented New Jersey governor Chris Christie during the Bridgegate scandal. While two of the governor’s aides were convicted, Christie was never charged.

From 2003 to 2005, Wray worked at the Justice Department, working on corporate fraud cases. He also provided representation in the government’s case against Enron Corp.

Trump dismissed the former head of the FBI, James Comey, on May 9. Comey will testify before a Senate panel Thursday about whether there was Russian influence on the 2016 presidential campaign.

If confirmed by the Senate, Wray would replace acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe.
