Lockheed Secures $1.7B Army Contract Modification for Apache Sensor System

The U.S. Army has awarded Lockheed Martin’s missiles and fire control business a potential $1.73 billion contract modification to provide the service branch with the Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor system, or M-TADS/PNVS.

The Department of Defense said Friday the Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama will determine work locations and obligate funding upon award of each task order.

Work is expected to run through Dec. 1, 2027.

The contract modification was awarded under a firm-fixed-price contract that the Army awarded in July 2023 for Common Sensor Electronic Unit engineering support.

What Is M-TADS/PNVS?

M-TADS/PNVS is an advanced electro-optical fire control system designed to provide long-range precision engagement, pilotage and situational awareness capabilities for AH-64D/E Apache helicopter pilots during night, day and adverse weather missions.

The sensor system’s technological advancements include the Modernized Day Sensor Assembly and Modernized Turret. It has line replacement modules that streamline field maintenance and digital video for improved tracking and recording.

Since 2005, more than 1,240 M-TADS/PNVS systems have been delivered to the Army and international customers.
