Al Whitmore, president of intelligence and security at BAE Systems, has accepted the 2025 Wash100 Award from Executive Mosaic CEO Jim Garrettson.
The Wash100 Award was established by Garrettson in 2014 to honor the most impactful and influential executives in the government contracting industry. Whitmore has won the prestigious award seven times since 2018. This year, the BAE Systems executive reclaimed his place in the exclusive list for his exceptional leadership in the defense and intelligence sectors and for championing initiatives aimed at enhancing national security through advanced technology.

Decades of Defense Expertise
Whitmore has carved an impressive career in the industry with over three decades of experience in the defense and intelligence sectors. He has consistently advocated for the advancement of national security through the adoption of next-generation technology and innovative capabilities.
Before taking on the president role at BAE Systems in 2017, Whitmore served for over 11 years at different General Dynamics businesses. He held vice president positions for various company divisions associated with the Department of Defense, including the Navy and Air Force.
Whitmore spent around 15 years at GTE Government Systems and GTE Laboratories, mainly leading business development and acquisition activities across the DOD and its service branches.
Championing Technological Advancement
Under Whitmore’s leadership, BAE Systems has prioritized technological advancements, leveraging artificial intelligence, data analytics and autonomous systems to deliver critical intelligence capabilities to government agencies. The executive also spearheaded the modernization of geospatial intelligence systems to reinforce and safeguard the military’s communication networks. In addition, Whitmore led efforts to develop advanced combat vehicle capabilities highlighted by significant contracts with Denmark and Sweden for CV90 combat vehicles.
