Boeing has received a $240 million contract from the U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command, USASOAC, for the production of MH-47G Block II Chinook aircraft.
Enhancing USASOAC’s MH-47G Chinook Helicopter Fleet
The global aerospace company said Thursday it will remanufacture five units of the MH-47G Block II Chinook heavy-lift helicopters as part of the Army’s modernization efforts focused on integrating advanced capabilities into its fleet.
Under the contract, deliveries will start in 2027 and are expected to be completed by 2030. This will bring USASOAC’s fleet of contracted MH-47G aircraft to 51.
USASOAC previously procured four MH-47G Block II helicopters in 2024. This includes the $115 million contract awarded to Boeing in June for the advanced purchase of two helicopters.
The MH-47G Block II Chinook aircraft integrates advanced capabilities including a reinforced airframe, redesigned fuel system and advanced avionics. The heavy-lift helicopter’s modular design also enables future enhancements.
“Supporting the needs of our special operators continues to be critically important,” said Heather McBryan, vice president of cargo programs and program manager for Boeing Defense, Space & Security. “USASOAC has unique and complex mission requirements, so it’s vital we provide the enhanced capabilities of the MH-47G Block II as quickly as possible,” she added.
