Coast Guard Eyes Competition for Ship Repair Contract

The U.S. Coast Guard plans to launch a competition for a contract to provide ship repair and maintenance support services for the USCGC Spencer cutter.

The ship repair contract has an estimated value of over $100 million and is expected to be competed as a small business program, according to a notice published Tuesday on the Acquisition Planning Forecast System.

USCG’s Surface Forces Logistics Center anticipates the release of a solicitation for the new requirement by June 21.

The contract seeks to complete all standard recurring maintenance items, including watertight closure inspection, piping system cleaning, repair of degraded system components and systems, thermographic inspection and cleaning and inspection of ventilation systems.

The requirement also covers flight deck renewal, helicopter TALON grid removal and preservation, load testing of aviation-related electrical systems, renewal of aviation-related system components and other aviation recurring maintenance items.

Work will be performed in Portsmouth, Virginia, with an expected completion date of Feb. 1, 2025, according to APFS.

The agency expects to award the contract by the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024.
