Cloudera’s Rob Carey on How DOD Could Benefit From Implementing Open Data ‘Lakehouses’ for Trusted AI

Rob Carey, president of Cloudera Government Solutions, said the Department of Defense seeking to advance adoption of trusted artificial intelligence tools needs to have a proper data management platform to better coordinate and facilitate sharing of data in motion between DOD leaders and warfighters.

In an opinion piece published Tuesday in C4ISRNET, Carey wrote about how central repositories or data “lakehouses” used for storing unstructured and structured data could support DOD’s AI adoption efforts.

He noted that data lakehouses could help improve trust in data via controlled governance, resulting in data-driven operations and data literacy.

“An open data lakehouse for trusted AI can increase flexibility to expand technology and analytics, while making the data more accessible, providing self-service analytics, ensuring data quality and simplifying data security,” Carey, a previous Wash100 awardee, wrote.

“Sorting and organizing clean, aligned data through a data lakehouse strengthens AI processes by providing the technology with trusted information,” he added.

The Cloudera executive also cited the release of DOD’s Data, Analytics and AI Adoption Strategy, which he said calls for the implementation of a data-centric approach.
