Adm. Lisa Franchetti Sworn in as Navy’s Chief of Naval Operations; Carlos Del Toro Quoted

Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the Navy’s vice chief of naval operations since September 2022, was sworn in as chief of naval operations following her confirmation by the Senate.

“I look forward to working with her to lead our Force into the future as we continue to strengthen our maritime dominance, build a culture of warfighting excellence, and enhance strategic partnerships,” said Carlos Del Toro, secretary of the Navy and a 2023 Wash100 awardee.

Franchetti’s military career includes time as commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet; director for strategy, plans and policy for the Joint Chiefs of Staff; commander of U.S. Naval Forces Korea; commander of Carrier Strike Group 9 and 15; and deputy commander of U.S. Naval Forces Europe.

She succeeds Adm. Mike Gilday, who held the top naval post for four years.

Meanwhile, Gen. David Allvin received Senate confirmation to be the next chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force and Lt. Gen. Christopher Mahoney was confirmed as assistant commandant of the Marine Corps and promoted to the rank of general.
