IBM Awarded $1B IRS Enterprise Mainframe Integration, Management Support Contract

IBM (NYSE: IBM) has landed a potential eight-year, $1 billion contract to manage, integrate and maintain IBM Z systems mainframe and related hardware and software for the Internal Revenue Service.

The IRS Enterprise Systems – IBM Support indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award has a one-year base period and seven option years, according to an award notice published Wednesday.

Contract work will cover software and hardware procurement, hardware relocation, installation, deinstallation and original equipment manufacturer and third-party software maintenance and licensing support, according to a justification for other than full and open competition published in February.

The company will provide mainframe communications support, disaster recovery, project management, training, customer coordination and consultation, requirements specification analysis, application development and enterprise infrastructure design services.

The IDIQ contract also calls for the vendor to provide enterprise lifecycle documentation and processes and other services in support of the IRS’ information technology mission, cybersecurity and future studies.
