Nokia Opens Testing & Research Lab for Network Cybersecurity

Nokia has unveiled a Dallas, Texas-based 5G testing laboratory that is intended to support assessments of 5G network security resilience and software, hardware and application cybersecurity.

The company said Monday the Advanced Security Testing and Research lab will develop secure platforms and implement approaches in an effort to mitigate network threats and address emerging cybersecurity issues.

Leveraging Nokia Bell Labs’ capabilities, the new lab focused on security forensics and research will also work to support the cybersecurity community’s identification of potential network vulnerabilities and other threat vectors.

“5G will enable countless new services for consumers, government and businesses, and the industry must be hyper-vigilant in ensuring these 5G ecosystems are secure,” said Nishant Batra, chief strategy and technology officer at Nokia. “ASTaR lab will be an ideal testing ground to assess security in the larger context of network use and abuse scenarios.”

Nokia as well as its operator, enterprise and government customers will be able to use ASTaR lab as a central cybersecurity knowledge repository.
