Byron Bright: KBR Subsidiary Holds Combat Shoot-Off for Army Directed Energy Program

TYSONS CORNER, VA, Sept. 27, 2021 — Kord Technologies, a KBR (NSYE: KBR) subsidiary, has completed a combat shoot-off at Fort Sill in Oklahoma as part of the Directed Energy Maneuver-Short Range Air Defense program, marking progress in its development of a directed energy system for U.S. Army, ExecutiveBiz reported Sept. 9.

The demonstration showcased soldiers engaging multiple targets using a mobile, 50 kilowatt-class high energy laser equipped on the Stryker armored fighting vehicle.

“In under two years, the program has rapidly progressed from design to integration and now performing in an operational environment… The CSO demonstrated that soldiers were able to rapidly learn how to operate the system and quickly demonstrate proficiency in target acquisition, aim point selection and engagements,” said Byron Bright, president of KBR’s government solutions business and a 2021 Wash100 awardee.
