BAE to Open $100M Navigation, Sensor Systems Hub in Iowa

BAE Systems has allocated $100M to construct a new facility in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to support defense and aerospace programs under the company’s recently purchased navigation and sensor systems segment.

The 278K-foot complex includes office as well as engineering and manufacturing spaces for the BAE business unit’s GPS offerings, the company said Thursday.

BAE began construction of the facility last month and expects to complete the project by 2022.

John Watkins, vice president and general manager of BAE's precision strike and sensing solutions segment, said the company intends to establish a workspace for its manufacturing and engineering professionals while building on the Greater Cedar Rapids area’s talent pool.

BAE plans to eventually expand the complex to include an additional 50K square-feet, according to the company.
