NASA has announced the return of the “worm” logo to mark the launch of the Crew Dragon spacecraft atop the SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket to transport astronauts to the International Space Station as part of the Demo-2 mission.
SpaceX’s first manned flight to the ISS is scheduled to occur by mid- or late-May, NASA said Thursday.
Jim Bridenstine, NASA administrator and a previous Wash100 award winner, said in a tweet posted Friday the Falcon 9 rocket will use the logo to “mark the return of human spaceflight on American rockets from American soil.”
Danne & Blackburn designed the worm logo, which was officially unveiled in 1975 and features a sleeker, simple red design of the word NASA.
