Inmarsat’s Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch: Gov’t Works to Boost Industry Partnerships for ‘Space Superiority’ Efforts

Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch

TYSONS CORNER, VA, July 19, 2017 — Rebecca Cowen-Hirsch, senior vice president for government strategy and policy at Inmarsat, has said the Defense Department and other federal agencies are pursuing policies to drive partnerships with the commercial satellite communications sector to boost U.S. space capabilities, ExecutiveBiz reported Tuesday.

Cowen-Hirsch wrote in an opinion piece published Monday that the government’s efforts signal a goal toward U.S. “space superiority” as the military works to secure this new warfighting domain.

She noted that the planned creation of a deputy chief of staff position for space operations within the U.S. Air Force, the integration of the commercial space industry into space situational awareness programs and the relaunch of the National Space Council are some of the recent notable moves.
