Saab Receives Estimated $184M Torpedo Order From Agency in Sweden

SaabSaab has received an estimated $184 million order for a lightweight torpedo system from Sweden’s defense logistics agency.

The company will develop, produce and deliver the torpedo from 2016 through 2024 in support of the Swedish armed forces’ underwater systems, Saab said Friday.

Gorgen Johansson of Saab said the lightweight torpedo serves as replacement for Torpedo 45.

The new order is part of the letter of intent that Saab and the Swedish defense logistics agency inked in June 2014 and follows previous orders in July of that year and February 2015.

Saab said it has previously provided underwater tools for weapon systems, sensors and autonomous or remotely operated underwater vehicles to the agency.
