Inmarsat Awards $600M Contract to Airbus for Construction of I-6 Satellites


inmarsat logoTYSONS CORNER, VA, December 29, 2015 — Inmarsat has awarded Airbus‘ defense and space business a potential $600 million contract to build the first two communications satellites for Inmarsat’s sixth-generation constellation, ExecutiveBiz reported Monday.

Inmarsat said Wednesday the Inmarsat-6 satellites have a dual payload capability that can support services such as Ka- and L-band mobile communications.

“The new satellites will provide significantly greater L-band capacity and will be capable of supporting a new generation of more advanced services, ” said Rupert Pearce, CEO of Inmarsat.
