Chieh-san Cheng: GST Extends NOAA Weather Data Program Support

GST Global Science_TechnologyGlobal Science & Technology will continue its operations and expansion support for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration‘s National Mesonet Program under a potential $11.36 million task order from the National Weather Service.

The company said Wednesday it received the task order through NOAA’s Scientific and Technical Support Services Next Generation indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity vehicle.

“Ultimately, NOAA’s use of the National Mesonet data improves weather forecasts that saves lives, protects property, and reduces economic impacts, ” said Chieh-san Cheng, GST president.

The company said it has worked over the past five years with universities and private weather companies as part of the National Mesonet Program Alliance to support the National Mesonet Program and provide NWS with meteorological data.

Under the new, one-year task order, GST will work to widen the geographic coverage of observation networks for changes in temperature, moisture, wind and radiation and offer a mobile platform to generate environmental data.

GST also aims to drive situational awareness through the integration of mesonet data with NOAA weather operations, GST NMP Manager Paul Heppner said.
